Hi Everyone, my name is Trish Kirby and Welcome to my blog. I’d like to take a few minutes to tell you about the journey I’ve had and where I am going. I am originally from Wappingers Falls, New York where I lived until I graduated high school. I went to Boston, MA to go to college because I thought that was my next step. But after 2 years, I was frustrated and discouraged and decided to start a new chapter in my life. So at 20 years old I moved to Maryland and got a job working for a well known brokerage firm. I thought I was going to climb the corporate ladder and be a stock broker but found out I’m not cut out for corporate politics. During this time I met my husband, Ray. It was love at first sight, I knew on our first date that we would be married someday (it took him a little longer to figure it out, lol) After about 10 years in the financial industry I needed to get out, I was stressed and very depressed.
Then our daughter was born, I continued to work for the first 2 years of her life but was constantly stressed with work and daycare issues so we decided I would stay home with her and in October of 1999 I came home to raise our family. We had a boy and another girl and I loved being a stay-at-home mom but I never thought about the future, of having a back-up plan, I thought when the time comes it will “just happen.” When my youngest started preschool, I then realized I had to go back to work. The only problem was I had not been in the work force for almost 10 years, I had no degree and lacked any kind of computer skills. I found a job working in a daycare but couldn’t make much more than minimum wage, but I found out how much I love working with children and started substitute teaching in my children’s school. I began to imagine myself as a school teacher and with Ray’s love and support, decided to go back to school after all these years. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed going back and the best part was it was all online so I didn’t need to be away from my family. I’ve been going for 2 years now and expect to finish my classes August 2011 and do my student teaching Fall ’11 and graduate in December 2011. Going back to school has helped get back my self confidence that I had lost somewhere along the way, I was more than just a wife and mom.
Then about 3 years ago, our lives went into a downward spiral that nearly destroyed our family. It was devastating for both of us and we almost didn’t make it. It was a true test of who we are and what we value in life. After 15 years, we were starting all over again. Then about 12 months ago Ray and I became distributors for a multi-level marketing company. We had never done anything like this before but believed in the product and was impressed with what we saw. The company culture was so different from the cut-throat mentality we found in corporate America. I have realized that I am the one who directs my path, nobody else. If it’s meant to be, it’s up to ME! I began dreaming again and thinking about the possibilities.
Now, I look back and am thankful for everything that I have been through because I would not be who I am today if I did not go through what I’ve been through. I want to make a difference in this world and be all that I can be and not settle anymore. I want to help others to become successful and live a life with purpose. I love what I do and look forward to what lies ahead.
